Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How old do I have to be to enroll in a class?
A. To train a dog in class by yourself, you have to be at least 10 years old. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult in the gym. (Puppy and Manners classes allow the whole family to join in the training sessions, and a parent must be present). Q. How do I enroll in a class? A. Follow these instructions: 1) Print an application from the “Forms and Links” tab of the website.2) Take the form to your veterinarian to be signed, and while you’re there, get a copy of your dog’s vaccine history, or due date report. 3) Send the application, the copy of the vaccines and your check to the mailing address noted on the application
Q. Why do I need my vet’s signature?
A. The vet’s signature certifies that the vet has a relationship with the dog, and that he/she thinks the dog is safe and healthy to be in a class setting with other dogs and people.
Q. If I have taken classes before do I need my vet’s signature every time I enroll?
A. If it has been more than a year since your last class with us then we do need the vet’s signature. Otherwise, we only need the vet’s signature for the first class.
Q. What do I need to get from my vet’s office for the vaccine history?
A. For puppies over 4 months of age and adult dogs: Most vets can print a report showing when the vaccines are due again – this is the best report for our records. It simply shows your name and the dog’s name; the vaccine “name” and the date when it is due to be given to the dog again.
For Puppies under 4 months of age: We would prefer to have the schedule from the vet's office, showing the dates when the vaccines were actually given, because they are given to puppies as sets of boosters. We will accept proof of 1 vaccine given by a breeder, if the sticker from the vaccine vial is shown next to the date given, and as long as the puppy is no younger than 6 weeks when vaccinated. In this scenario, we still require at least 1 set of vaccines to be given by a veterinarian’s office.
Q. Which vaccines are required in order to be in class? **Please note: It is a NC state law that the Rabies vaccine be given at 4 months of age**
A. For puppies over 4 months of age, and adult dogs: We require Distemper/Parvo, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines be given before the dog comes to class.
For puppies under 4 months of age: We require proof that at least 2 Distemper/Parvo boosters and at least 1 Bordetella vaccine be given before the puppy comes to class.
Q. If I have taken classes before, do I need my dog’s vaccine history every time I enroll?
A. Yes. We do not keep track of previous enrollment forms and vaccine history. Therefore, a new shot record needs to be provided with each application.
Q. If I have a rescue or foster dog, do I subtract the discount for a rescued/foster dog when I submit my check, or do I get a refund?
A. If you have included a copy of your rescue agreement (or foster agreement if it is a foster dog) with your application, then you can send a check for the amount of the class, minus the $25 rescue discount. We require a copy of the rescue agreement for our records before we can allow the discount for rescued dogs.
Q. Can I enroll online?
A. No. We do not currently allow registration online, or hold spots through email or phone contact. Receipt of your check is what holds your spot in class, and classes are filled on a first come, first served basis.
** If it is getting close to the start of class and you aren’t sure if your registration will arrive by mail before the first night of class, then email classes@carolinadogtrainingclub.com to get instructions on what you should do.
