Beginner 1

For dogs 6 months and up who have had little to no training

In the Beginner I class we teach fundamentals of positive reinforcement, leadership, and communication with your dog. Exercises include basic beginning obedience commands such as attention, sit, down, and stay, as well as beginning recalls (Come!), loose leash walking, settling, and proper use of hand signals/treats.

Beginner 2

For dogs who have completed Beginner 1

In this class, we continue basic obedience skills with more focus on loose leash walking, adding distractions to basic exercises (sit, down, stay, attention), polite greetings, recalls, settling, and heeling. We also begin to address the dog/human communications -tone of voice, body posture, hand signals, and understanding what your dog sees/hears.

Canine Good Citizen

For dogs who have completed Beginner 1 & Beginner 2

In this class we cover exercises required for the AKC Canine Good Citizen certification, as well as continue perfecting basic obedience skills. We will administer the CGC test on the last day of the class, but participation is optional. A nominal additional fee is required to take the CGC test. Once you have passed the test, you will receive a certificate of completion from the American Kennel Club. Please click here for more information on the AKC CGC certification.
